New Music: Solar Halos, Demon Eye and more
Very glad to start of with TWO local bands who are getting some national/international recognition for their upcoming releases.
Invisible Oranges has a stream of the upcoming self-titled Solar Halos album, plus an interview with singer/guitarist Nora Roger here. Their release party is tomorrow night (Jan. 18) with Irata and Bitter Resolve at Cat's Cradle.
Terrorizer is now exclusively streaming, and has some kind words for, Demon Eye's "Leave the Light" here. Their release party with Colossus and, coincidentally, Solar Halos, is Feb. 1 at Kings.
In semi-local news, if you missed Red Fang's performance on Letterman last week, you can check it out here.
Right now I'm listening to the new Indian release "From All Purity," which is streaming on Pitchfork here. If you need to remain calm and collected for any reason, I suggest you don't listen to this.

Return of Red Fang and Early Man
Wednesday was Old School night at the Pour House, with a bunch of folks coming out to see Portland's Red Fang, which includes former Raleighites David Sullivan and John Sherman. Last time they were around, they opened for The Fucking Champs, and really kind of blew them away. Evidently they're now bigger than I realized because on Wednesday, Early Man, with whom they're on tour, opened for them. Not sure if that was just for Raleigh (it being a half-hometown and all) or if it's like that for the entire tour. Regardless, they again blew everyone away.
Red Fang from Mann's World on Vimeo.I never saw Early Man as a duo, but I have to say I like how they sound as a quartet more than what I've heard on their record. If you listen closely at the beginning of this video, you can hear a smitten Ms. P say, "Make sure you get a shot of the drummer."

Red Fang and The Fucking Champs
I'll just go ahead and say it: Red Fang blew away both Birds of Avalon and The Fucking Champs Saturday at The Pour House. If you're not familiar with them, Red Fang is from Portland, Ore., but includes former locals David Sullivan (Shiny Beast) on guitar and John Sherman (Mercury Birds) on drums. They make really heavy stoner rock that doesn't get too mired in sludge. Check out the video.
I got BOA during the Kings closing, so I skipped them this time. As for TFC, as I've said before, I can really take or leave them. A lot of their stuff I love, and a lot of goes in one ear and out the other. Still, for the hardcore fans, here is a video.
