New music from BOA and Citified

Here are a couple of new tunes for you. The first is from the revamped Birds of Avalon, who will play their first show as a quartet (without singer Craig Tilley) tomorrow night at Local 506. To get you ready for the show, they've released a new song, "The Golden Nose", on Swift.fm.

Next up is "Sleepsound" which is part of a new batch of songs from Greensboro's swirly Citified. They'll be playing around here several times in May.

New video from Citified

Chris Jackson from Greensboro's Citified just sent me the link to a new video for the band's song "Weddings." The song is from the band's 2008 release "The Meeting After the Meeting," and the video was directed by Dave Liberstein. It's a nice, sepia-toned, dreamy video that goes along nicely with the swirly nature of the song.

Catching up with Gray Young and Citified

(Gray Young) I could have sworn that I had never seen Gray Young, but yesterday when I was updating a few videos (a process that should be completely done soon!) I found an old video I shot of them at the Troika Festival in Nov. 2007. I guess they didn't make much of an impression on me back then because I didn't say much about them. Regardless, last night I was VERY impressed, so much so that I bought their CD and have been listening to it all day. Reminds me of a Ride and Block Party, if either band were mostly instrumental. (Citified) The headliner for the evening was Greensboro's Citified, who are quite the buzz band these days. I shot video for "Secret Knock," which is my favorite song by them.

So, I finally get to see Citified ...

And of course they have technical difficulties. Apparently there was some sort of guitar issue that led to a 10-minute adjustment period between the first and second songs. I still thought they sounded great, but the band was less than thrilled with their performance. I'm also agreeing more and more with a friend who thinks they have a heavy Interpol influence. Photo courtesy of Mich Diaz, 2008 In case you didn't realize it, shoegazer rock is alive and well in Greensboro, in the guise of the band Citified. I've been listening to their beautiful, jangly, lush sophomore release, "The Meeting After the Meeting," which is out now on Eskimo Kiss Records. I have not seen this band live, and it looks like they don't have any upcoming Triangle dates (they're at the Flatiron in Greensboro on Feb. 22.). But I have enjoyed this CD, which channels The Smiths and Echo and the Bunnymen at times, but really reminds me of a couple of bands I'd forgotten how much I loved: Ride and The Stone Roses.
