Photos of Windhand, Mourning Cloak and Satan's Satyrs on Invisible Oranges

Last Saturday (Oct. 19) I checked out Windhand, Mourning Cloak and Satan's Satyrs at Legitimate Business in Greensboro. Since I lived in Greensboro for five years, you would think I could easily find my way around that town. Evidently Legitimate Business (the recording studio/show space owned by the guitarist of Mourning Cloak) is in a part of town I never visited because nothing about that space, street or neighborhood looked familiar. Anyway, it's a cool spot, and I'll be on the lookout for more shows happening there now that I know where it is.

Windhand and Mourning Cloak were great, as expected, but I was most impressed with Satan's Satyrs, a young Hellacopters-ish band from Virginia. Looking forward to seeing them again. Check out the photos on Invisible Oranges.

Photos and video of Mourning Cloak, photos of Solar Halos

(Mourning Cloak)

(Solar Halos)

Here are a few photos from Greensboro's Mourning Cloak and Chapel Hill's Solar Halos from Thursday's (Aug. 14) show at Chapel Hill Underground. Bitter Resolve and Curtains of Night also played, but I had to make an early evening of it. I hadn't shot video in a while and decided to get footage of Mourning Cloak. If you like what you hear, they'll be at the Maywood for an early show tomorrow night. More details here. Solar Halos will be on the bill with Sleep at Hopscotch.  See more photos

Cvlt Nation also streaming Greensboro's Mourning Cloak

I admit to knowing nothing about this band until today -- despite the fact that they're from Greensboro. But once I saw the Cvlt Nation post, and saw where they're from, I decided to check out Mourning Cloak. The entire "No Visible Light" EP is streaming now, and it's, good crushing stuff. Check it out here. It'll be released on cassette on Headfirst! Records next month. Hoping they'll play Raleigh soon.
